About Us
Under the Computer Hood Users Group (UCHUG) is a non profit Users Group. We are also members of the Association of Personal Computer User Groups (APCUG) (http://www.apcug.org). UCHUG membership consists of first time computer users through Computer Consultants. This diverse audience allows users of all experience levels to feel comfortable with exchanging ideas and obtaining help for problem resolution.
Office of Education - Room 306
The group meets to discuss hardware and software problems, answer questions and attend demonstrations on the first Wednesday of each month at the
San Diego County Office of Education, 6401 Linda Vista Rd, Room 306, at 7:00 until 9:00 p.m.
Meetings may be attended free of charge by anyone interested in computers. For membership information, please contact the membership chairman, Bill Palmer, at UCHUG.Membership @ cox.net. Members receive a copy of the group's monthly publication, Drive Light.
Upcoming Meetings
May 7th Meeting - The Under the Computer Hood User's Group, or UCHUG, will be hosting a
couple of the presentations. One will be from the club's webmaster on creating your own web site using the hosting service 1 and 1. The other will be a clinic on how to give your computer an Internet Tune-Up. This will all occur at their general meeting on Wednesday, May 7th at 7:00 PM. The public is welcome to this free presentation. The group will be meeting in Room 306 at the San Diego County Office of Education, 6401 Linda Vista Road. Highlights from Previous Meetings
4-2-08 - The main program was a presentation on the OBD-II Auto Computer Monitoring System. This system allows you to monitor the computer that has been installed in cars for over the last 10-15 years.
3-5-08 - The main program was a presentation on Converting Audio to Digital. The program Audacity was used to record and manipulate the recorded audio stream to remove unwanted portions.
2-6-08 - The main program was the History, Technical Description and Capabilities of the USB Connections which have become so prevalent on our computers. Also was "Short Topics on Computing", including short presentations on "Yellow Sticky Notes for Your PC".
1-3-08 - The main program was a continuation of our networking series. In Networking 401 we discussed networking security followed by a Q & A session.
12-5-07 - The club and membership celebrated the holidays with pot luck goodies provided by the membership and beverages provided by the club. An auction of donated hardware and software followed.
11-7-07 - The main progrm was a presentation on the Linux distribution Ubuntu. There was also a presentation on the proper way to scrub a hard drive to prepare it for sale, donation or disposal.
10-3-07 - UCHUG, will be had their yearly election for the Board of Directors. This was followed by "Networking 401 - Wireless Security" where recommended wireless settings were discussed and demonstrated.
9-5-07 - Nominations were conducted for the proposed slate of officers running for election to the Board of Directors for UCHUG. The general election for the board will be held during the general meeting next month in October. Following that the main presentation was "Converting VHS Tape to DVD".
8-3-07 - A video and audio link was established with member Abbott Brownell at his vacation home in Maine. This was followed by a presentation "Getting Under Your Laptop's Hood" by member Mark Ferbrache. Mark dismantled a laptop to replace the video card and then re-assembled it.
7/11/07 - This months meeting was a presentation on "Repairing your Optical Mouse" and a MS Windows "Mindshare" presentation.
6/06/07 - This months meeting is was our annual picnic meeting at Crown Point in Mission Bay. Pizza, refreshments and good conversation was enjoyed by all.
5/02/07 - The main topic was "Home Networking 301, Basics of setting up a wireless network". The main topic was followed by setting up a network drive.
4/04/07 - The meetings main topic was a presentation on Windows Vista. Installation and the interface were discussed.
